Trying to figure out a Humminbird Helix G3N NMEA Network? Or a Humminbird Helix G2N NMEA Network? Your may experience some issues finding the correct parts.
In 2024, Humminbird discontinued it’s G2N/G3N NMEA 2000 interface. This device was Humminbird PN 408390-1.
When we heard of this, we purchased the remaining units available through their distribution system. But there really wasn’t many. 7 in total. And those sold prior to the end of the year.
Possible Options
Installing NMEA 2000 is quite possible on either of these fish finders. But it can be expensive. Typical additional costs can easily be $300. This cost is in addition to a standard NMEA network, which you still need. So, if you are trying to install a Humminbird Helix G3N NMEA 2000 network, our first recommendation is to not do this with your existing fish finder.
However, if you really want to try this, you have two options to try to locate one of these Humminbird cables now that they are no longer being manufactured. You can try to find one used, or you can hunt around discount bins of local fishing stores that don’t sell on the internet.
We have had customers who have had success doing both.
It is worth keeping in mind that you require this Humminbird part, and their part number 720074-1 in addition to a working NMEA 2000 network for your outboard brand to finish this installation. It is not uncommon for total parts cost to approach $500 to complete this type of installation. A Helix G4N NMEA 2000 installation is pretty much the same as any other NMEA 2000 installation now. So, your money may be better spent on an upgrade.
In general, we have had mixed success adding NMEA 2000 networks to Helix G2N fish finders. One of the features that appears to be 50/50 chance of working is networking engine data between Helix fish finders once one is hooked up to NMEA.
Upgrading your Fish Finder Instead
Should you choose to upgrade your fish finder to a current G4N, or other Humminbird model, you can easily configure an NMEA network for your boat using any of our NMEA Cable Bundles for your choice of outboard.
