Garmin makes a number of fish finder series and models.  The ECHOMAP and GPSMAP series generally support an NMEA connection, but there are some exceptions.

ANY of the GPSMAP series support both NMEA 2000, and NMEA 0183 connections.

ECHOMAP series generally support NMEA 2000.  Generally, this series does not have NMEA 0183 connectivity.  If you require NMEA a 0183 connection for your VHF radio, or perhaps your Yamaha Speedometer, we can provide this by the addition of one of our Capn NMEA devices.

Any ECHOMAP fish finder with a CV in it’s model, such as the ECHOMAP Series 64CV, may, or may not support NMEA 2000, and in addition, if it does support NMEA, it may require a proprietary Garmin manufactured NMEA cable, or not.  Sometimes, the proprietary NMEA cable is included in the box when you purchase the unit, or it may not, depending on year that the device was manufactured.  There does not appear to be a clear logic on whether size, year, or model (2,3, or 4) makes it easier to determine NMEA capabilities.  However, if the fish finder supports NMEA 2000, there is a marked NMEA 2000 port on the connection panel.

The Striker series doe not support NMEA connections.

If you are buying a new VHF radio, there are makes and models that support NMEA 2000.  However, many of the preferred brands, such as Standard Horizon, ship many new models with NMEA 0183.
