Description
These are our Better Connected™ NMEA Power Cables. They come in 3 versions:
- 3 foot / 1m fused with integrated Tee
- 3 foot / 1m unfused with integrated Tee
- 6 foot / 1.8m fused with Tee
- All our NMEA power cables use thick 18AWG tinned power leads
Fish finders will not transmit or receive data if power is not present on their NMEA 2000 port. So every NMEA 2000 network needs to have a power cable.
Advantages of Tee Versions
Two of our power cables have integrated Tees. Having a Tee already integrated into a power cable reduces component count in your network. So this results in more reliability.
This NMEA power cable comes in two models that include a standard 7A fuse. This is important to protect any of the wiring in your NMEA network. However, there is also an unfused model. This version is for boat owners who have existing unused fuse block circuits under their console.
Installation Resources
The power cable connection location you choose is dependent upon when your trolling motor and electronics are powered, versus when your main outboard is running.
Choose one of these three options for where to connect this cable to +12V:
- Connect to your accessory switch.
- In parallel with your engine ignition key switch.
- Or, directly to the battery.
If you decide to wire directly to your battery, be aware that the NMEA network will always be live with a small amount of current, so it is a good idea to pull the fuse when storing your boat for months or during the off season.
Take into consideration that you may want to use other functions of your NMEA 2000 network when your trolling motor is the only motor running, and not your outboard. Based on this, it may a better idea to wire positive on this cable to your accessories switch, and not to your engine key.

Our Commitment to Quality & Why it Matters
Every Cable We Make is Tested
Every NMEA power cable we sell goes though our main Canadian facility and each cable is tested prior to being packaged. Our automated testing runs a minimum of 12 checks on each NMEA power cable. Pin to pin shorts are tested on all pins, and end to end connections are tested for each of the positive and negative pins. The shielding is tested to ensure it is properly connected all the way through.
All NMEA power cables provide red and black connections. But what happens to the other 3 connections from the main NMEA cable? Bargain bin cables just cut those off, leaving loose connections that might short later. All of our Better Connected™ NMEA Power Cables have unused wires individually heat shrinked internally. Plus, we use the best AMP branded crimps to connect the shields and drain wire to ground. This provides a power cable that connects your entire NMEA shielding properly to ground, and leads to better NMEA signal integrity.
We have invested heavily in our cable testing equipment. Key components of our test setup are of our own design, and it thoroughly checks each NMEA cable we sell. There is not a single cable you can buy from Golden Channels that is not put through extensive testing. We never just assume anything works before sending it to any of our valued customers.
Better Wire and Components
All of our NMEA Power Cables have tinned, 18AWG positive and negative conductors on them. These hold up better than thinner gauge wires often used to save manufacturing cost. They are connected to the NMEA conductors in the cable using the best AMP branded crimps and using German manufactured tooling.
Our NMEA 1 foot / 30 cm. cable comes with our two year “Now You’re Golden” warranty.
