Just take it out of the box, and connect it to your NMEA 2000 network instead of your fish finder/chart/MFD.
It will tell you if your NMEA 2000 cable network to your outboard(s) is working correctly, and the fish finder is either not programmed properly, or has a dead NMEA 2000 port. It also checks for proper +12V at the NMEA connector at the same time.
Re-connect your fish finder/chart/MFD.
Connect it up at the engine end. It will tell you if your fish finder signals are showing up at the outboard end of the NMEA 2000 network.
