Description
You can use our Yamaha NMEA Custom Bundle builder to get the parts for a perfect NMEA installation. You get the exact NMEA cables needed for outboard, boat, and fish finder. Also, we have special cables bundles specifically for Yamaha tiller setups. All you need to know is what gear you’ve got. Our bundle builder will specify exactly what you need. And, won’t add anything you don’t.
Standard Yamaha installations display engine hours, RPM, very accurate fuel consumption, oil pressure, engine temperature, and alternator voltage. Existing gauges for all these parameters will continue to operate once your new NMEA 2000 system is installed. See the section on Trim below to understand engine trim options.
Have questions? Or, maybe you have equipment on your boat that is not listed. We love talking to customers. Please contact us and we will help you out.
Your Yamaha outboard needs to be a 25 HP or larger 4 stroke outboard built in 2006 or newer.

Trim on Yamaha NMEA 2000
You need to decide if you want your existing engine trim gauge to continue working now (if you have one). Or, if you want your engine trim readout on your fish finder via NMEA 2000. You can’t have both.
How you choose where to display trim is via a movable pink wires with one conductor connectors in the outboard. These change in Yamaha builds and we have seen at least two variations. Yamaha typically marks also marks the connector that you need to figure out with a yellow tape.
Trim sending units are just resistors that vary when the engine is trimmed up or down. Moving the pink wire moves this resistor connection to the ECU from the console gauge wire.
As an example, on my boat, I already had a trim gauge on my console. When I added NMEA 2000, I just left the trim connection alone. I like trim where it is, and I’ve never had any issue with my trim gauge.
If you are planning on seeing your trim on a Yamaha 6Y8 series digital tachometer, you need to set the trim connections up for NMEA 2000. When the trim appears on the 6Y8 digital tach, it will also display on your fish finder, or any other NMEA 2000 display connected to your NMEA 2000 network.
Water Pressure on Yamaha NMEA 2000
Yamaha outboards do not come with water pressure sending units from the factory. However, if you install one, water pressure will display on your NMEA 2000 fish finder or chart.
