With the launch of our new website, we wanted to specifically pay attention to NMEA 2000 for Tillers.
It’s better to design NMEA cable sets specifically for tiller installations. There are a few differences. First, most tiller boats are laid out with a back seat or stern compartment where the battery and most of the wiring goes. Some may have a console. Others may not. But in either case, it is more efficient to install most of the NMEA components under the seat, or in the stern compartment.
No NMEA backbone cable is generally needed in a tiller installation. Instead, one longer cable runs from the stern or seat electrical area to the fish finder NMEA connector. The power, terminators, and outboard NMEA cable all join together in the same location. The outboard cable is the only other outside connection. It runs into the outboard.
