This is our Suzuki NMEA 2000 2007 & Earlier Adapter Cable or SMIS to SDS converter cable. The Suzuki NMEA 2000 2007 & Earlier Adapter Cable is always needed with Suzuki Outboards prior to 2007 to install an NMEA network. Compatible with outboards as early as 1999.
It adapts the earlier specialized round SMIS connection in your outboard for use with the standard Suzuki NMEA Cable (1999 to 2012 Version)
You can identify the engine connector this cable uses by it’s round shape, and it will generally be covered by a grey or black silicon cover that has a retaining strap, and when you look at the circular connector on the outboard, it will have room for 8 pins in the connector, but only 4 of the 8 are occupied by connections.

Potential Fuel Consumption Issue
If your Suzuki outboard is in the 2003 to 2007 model year range, we need to let you know that there is a small chance that the fuel usage data the system displays will be incorrect. This known problem occurs in about 10% of our customers installations with models in this date range. 90% of the customers who have installed these systems see the correct fuel consumption data. All customers in this year range see the rest of the engine information correctly. Suzuki has discontinued the cable that is required to correct this problem, so if it does occur, we have no service options than to offer a return or refund of your system.
If fuel consumption is not correct after your installation, and fuel consumption is a critical parameter, you will have to install a third party NMEA fuel monitor. Garmin and Maretron both make products to do this.
Our Commitment to Quality & Why it Matters
Connectors and connector pins in this cable assembly are from Japan, and are exactly the same OEM as your outboard’s connector. We never use knock off connector components in any of our cable assemblies. This means the connector components always mate properly with your outboard. Not surprisingly, it also saves our manufacturing staff headaches with assembly, since all parts are to a tighter mechanical spec. This saves all of us money and headaches in the long run.
Also, connectors need to be sealed where they connect with your engine wiring harness. Otherwise, moisture and contamination can build up, corroding the connectors on your engines wiring harness. This is something we are very careful about, connector contamination lead to intermittent outboard operation, or the need to either fix or replace the wiring harness in your outboard. All of our outboard cables create a perfect seal with the engine wiring harness when installed. You will see that in all of our cables, appropriate blanking seals are used in unoccupied pin locations.
