The Better Connected™ Suzuki SMIS to SDS Adapter Cable is for those Suzuki outboards which require a cable to change the gender of the 4 pin connection in the standard Suzuki NMEA cable adapter kit.
This cable needs to be added about 50% of the time when ordering either the Suzuki Outboard NMEA cables for 2008 to Now model years.
Please also note that our version of this cable has both a black and a “natural” nylon colored connector. The black end goes to the outboard connector, and the “natural” color nylon connector goes to the Suzuki NMEA cable. If these are reversed, you won’t get any engine data on your NMEA network.
The requirement for this cable often causes confusion for Suzuki outboard owners. Please contact us prior to ordering if you need clarification on which gender of connector you have on your outboard. We can help with more information on your particular outboard, as well as give you advice on which way to proceed.

Connectors and connector pins in this cable assembly are from Japan, and are exactly the same OEM as your outboard’s connector. We never use knock off connector components in any of our cable assemblies. This means the connector components always mate properly with your outboard. Not surprisingly, it also saves our manufacturing staff headaches with assembly, since all parts are to a tighter mechanical spec. This saves all of us money and headaches in the long run.
Also, connectors need to be sealed where they connect with your engine wiring harness. Otherwise, moisture and contamination can build up, corroding the connectors on your engines wiring harness. This is something we are very careful about, connector contamination lead to intermittent outboard operation, or the need to either fix or replace the wiring harness in your outboard. All of our outboard cables create a perfect seal with the engine wiring harness when installed. You will see that in all of our cables, appropriate blanking seals are used in unoccupied pin locations.
